It’s extremely hard to find a packet with the sugar content under 5g per serve, some even making their way up to 15g per one serve! This is a huge amount of sugar to be eating first thing in the morning with likely little to no protein, which will set the tone for your blood sugar and cortisol for the rest of the day – hello afternoon slump, sugar cravings & unhappy hormones! Hemp seeds are a great to sprinkle on salads, yogurt or mix into your home-made granola. They are particularly rich in healthy fats including omega 6 and omega 3 both which are known to support the production of healthy hormones and reduce inflammation. Hemp seeds are also a great source of protein, 2-3 tbsp of hemp seeds contain around 11grams of protein! These seeds are a very easy way to get more protein into your diet which is supportive of energy production and hormone balance.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup almonds chop roughly.
- 1 cup pecans chop roughly.
- 1 cup shredded coconut
- ½ cup pumpkin seeds
- ½ cup pepita seeds
- ½ cup hemp seeds
- ½ cup bikini nibs
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- ½ tsp ground nutmeg
- 3 tbsp melted coconut oil
- ¼ cup honey
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
Method:
1. Preheat oven to 180’degress
2. In a large bowl combine all dry ingredients
3. In a small bowl combine oil, honey and vanilla
4. Pour over dry ingredients and spread granola on prepared baking sheet in an even layer
5. Bake until golden and nuts are toasted approx. 10-15 minutes
Tip: Add this granola to yogurt mixed with collagen and top with mixed fruit for a complete meal containing protein, healthy fats, protein and fibre! This kind of breakfast will keep your blood sugar balanced, energy steady and leave you feeling satisfied.
